jake’s sponsored toddle
jake successfully completed his sponsored toddle from his mums and tots group at st. john’s church to the glen gardens park in filey.
here is a picture of him walking and one of his friends at the park after their toddle.

jake is on course to raise over £30 for the children’s society.
well done jake!

so the ice cream at the beach became an ice cream at the cafe.
we had a lovely sunny morning driving round the wolds taking part in a car treasure hunt. we didn’t win. but we did finish the challenge with about 30 others from church at a pub in thwing. steak pie and a pint of locally brewed bitter.
the next church outing is a visit to the brewery open day. why aren’t all church outings like this?!
it’s amazing what they’ll print!

the local paper printed an article about the filey parish website and our plans to blog throughout lent.
they also added a bit about the work kath and i are doing.
plus i had to stand in the street looking like a lemon looking at my laptop!
gadget update
two new gadgets in the last couple of weeks.
i’ve been practising my barista skills after installing a new three in one coffee machine in the kitchen. i can now offer filter coffee, cappucinos, espressos or a mean hot chocolate. the best bit about this machine is i got it from ebay and i only cost £19 and it looks brand new! these machines are over £70 in the shops.
the other new gadget is a dymo label printer, also bought from ebay. i’ve never had much luck with labels, even using the preset templates in word have always required some tweaking and now i use goodgle docs i can’t see any label function. the dymo printer uses dymo labels and the software from dymo uses templates designed specifically for dymo labels, no tweaking needed! plus it’s brilliant for printing just one label, something that is fiddly and time consuming when using sheet labels.
we’re planning to use more and more labels now. we have used vistaprint for event publicity cards and rather than make them date or time specific, the front side has generic project information and we place a sticker on the rear with event details. if the date or time changes we haven’t wasted money on printing, just the cost of some labels.
been a bit quiet.
since the last post when it was snowing, we’ve done a fair bit:
- had a couple of days in chester walking the walls and sampling the coffee shops
- spent 24 hours in oswestry catching up with friends
- a couple of nights in milton keynes with a day celebrating my mum’s birthday
- had good planning meetings for cafe church and xodus (we have a new exciting direction for the youth group)
- a day/night in doncaster followed by a day in beverley
- got involved in a children’s service in staxton, a nearby village
- ate too many pancakes
- took some young people to a youth event at the national railway museum
- went shopping to ikea in leeds for cafe church resources
- helped lead our first service at st john’s
the pace has slowed a little this week, but now the focus is our first cafe church this sunday. check back for a report.
